Often we come across people who say they have not realised their full potential and that they have not achieved as much as they deserved. Working hard alone does not guarantee the good results. You must watch out what you are doing, whether you are working on your core strengths and whether you concentrate enough on your work. For example, there are persons who spend a lot of time planning for something. They use the latest tools, technologies and take help of the best designers or planners in the industry. If you are planning now, the plan may be valid for only a few months or a year atmost. The world around us changes so fast that we cant keep on doing what we planned a couple of years ago. We always have to update continuously and “execute” the work immediately. If such people are not successful, the main reason behind that is they planned good but did not have the courage or did not take enough pain to execute the plans. They probably were so much confident of their plans that they did not go to the field and never watched over how the plan was being implemented. And then you say, “I am unlucky!. I have not realised my potential yet”.
So what you have to do is to watch out what you are doing. When the plan is ready make a deadline before which the plan has to be implemented. Involve the planners and yourself in the actual execution of the plan. If you are hiring new persons make sure they have to go through proper placement tests. The teams designing and conceptualising the thing must be involved in the day to day execution of the plan. Sometimes asking certain questions to yourself will tell you whether you did enough or not. You should ask yourself, “Did i make sure that there was no wrong doing in the daily execution of the plan?”, ”Did i personally oversee all the tasks and make sure everything was according to the original plan?”, “Did i become lazy after months of hard work in making the plan?’. Hopefully you will get the answer yourself.
