College time is often difficult especially when one is close to completion of graduation. It is the time to find a good job and finally settle down in life. Here are some tips for college graduate students to help them do better.

Specialize: You should have knowledge of all fields related to your field of study. But you must specialize in a certain niche. For example, if you are doing a degree in writing, you can specialize in a certain field of writing. You can specialize in technical writing.But you must have knowledge of all related fields.

Doing Your Internship: Work as an intern in a company which specializes in the field in which you want to specialize. This is must to improve your skills and prepare yourself to immediately start working once you have graduated. Choose the company wisely, where you want to work as an intern. Find various companies by doing a search online and email them. You should tell them everything about what you wish to do and how you can add value to their organization. Don’t have any conditions to work and don’t make it troublesome for them to get you as an intern. Tell them that you are willing to work for them as an intern.

Increase your contacts: You can get in contact with various personalities in your field. For this you should take the following steps:

• Attend Seminars: You should attend the seminars conducted by various persons in your university or at another place. Try giving your opinion. Always have a card in hand so that you can provide it to anyone on demand.
• Increase Online Presence: Make accounts at LinkedIn.com, Facebook, Twitter & Some specialized networking sites for your field. If you have a personality in real life somewhere, you can always send them a request to join their network at a leading site like LinkedIn or Facebook. They won’t refuse.
• Read Various College Tips sites. For example, you can check out College Blog.
• Participate in various online forums. Various professionals from your field can be found at a popular online forum such as College Forum. Just do an online search to find out a good forum in your field. Then start posting there. Help others with your own knowledge and request help from others. You will surely find help from leading professionals.
• While doing all the online activities, continue widening your netowrk at sites like Linkedin, facebook and twitter.com
• Read extensively. Look for expert advice and college tips.

Finally when you are ready for the Job Interview, make sure you have done everything to prepare yourself. Read about all sorts of Interview Questions online. Make sure you have mastered all the questions about your niche area. Even spend some money on training for that kind of interview. Don’t ever go to the interview thinking you know everything. In many cases, even the candidates with the best knowledge are not selected because they answered some Interview questions wrongly.
