Before modifying the registry files in windows xp, back up the registry first.

To clear recent playlist items / files in windows media player using regedit or registry hacks, do the following:

Click Start, then select run.
Type regedit and press enter
Then on the left hand panel, double click on HKEY_CURRRENT_USER
Go the HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/MediaPlayer/Player
Then search on the left hand panel for the following:

1) RecentURLList – This shows website streams. Now remove its contents or entries as you wish.

2) RecentFileList – As the name tells, this shows the recent files played in windows media player in windows xp. Delete the contents as you wish. So the recent playlists are removed.

How to delete the entries from the Toolbar: Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/MediaPlayer/Player
Then go to MediaLibrarySettings, then you can delete the contents that show under the medialibrarysettings (MRUList)
