How to Remove – clear – delete the list of recent files, audios or videos in Windows Media Player in Windows XP. (Check if it works with Vista)

You can disable the recently opened files / videos in windows media player 9, 10 or other ones.
Sometimes you may wish not to show any other person that what files you are playing on your media player software.
We have already seen how to back up the registry files so do the following to remove or disable the recent files:

Click Start, then select run
Type regedit, then press enter
On the left hand side, double Click on “HKEY_CURRENT_USER”, a sub menu will open.
Doing this  you have to go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/microsoft/mediaplayer/preferences
Then on the right side, search for “AddToMRU”. If its not there then click on the empty space in the right side panel and select New, then binary value. Name this as AddToMRU.
Then double click on AddToMRU and set its value to 01 for enabling recent files, videos list, etc. or set 00 for disabling or deleting the recent files list.

This is how you have hacked the registry on Windows XP to disable the recently opened files on windows media player.
