Naturally, this is not a hard and fast rule, and you may pass more, and have more incidence of flatulence on a given day than the previous or next. Compared to that, how much is too much flatulence?
Is The Such A Thing As Too Much Flatulence?
(i) It goes without saying that it is difficult, if not impossible, to constantly measure how much flatulence you have on a daily basis – at least in terms of volume. It is entirely possible, however, to keep count of how many times you break wind on a given day. You will be familiar with how much you pass in a regular bout of flatulence, and can calculate from that if a particular day has seen too much flatulence. On the days when you pass more than is normal, it is then for you to decide whether the reasons for this are within your control.
(ii) For those of us who feel that we have had too much flatulence, we can then decide what is at the source of it. While fourteen is the average number, there is nothing out of the ordinary in having a few more incidences of flatulence – up to seventeen or eighteen is fairly normal, given that fourteen is simply the average. If it goes on past twenty, you may begin to wonder – and the first thing you should consider is what you have eaten and how much of it. Stopping Excess Flatulence
(i) Although keeping a flatulence diary might seem like a bit of a jump from what is normal, it is a fairly sensible step if you find yourself concerned by your flatulence. In the diary, it is important to keep a note of what you eat, how many times you break wind, and also consider the volume and the smell of the flatulence. If you judge from the diary that you have had too much flatulence, then you can compare it with previous days and consider what you have eaten. You can then see what foods cause too much flatulence, and make a decision on what to eat more often.
(ii) Bear in mind that going over your average does not necessarily mean you have passed too much flatulence. An average is merely one number which demonstrates the regular amount that you pass. On any given day, however, you may have had a shock, been nervous, eaten something that was slightly spoiled or any number of other things. It becomes too much flatulence when you are going well over your average on a regular basis. That is when there may be cause for concern.
