There has been considerable debate over the subject of radio-frequency responsible for the cause of acoustic neuroma. Whether radio frequency emitted from cell phones can cause damage to the human brain is a big question confronting the experts in the medical field.
The occurrence of acoustic neuroma amongst tinnitus patients is around one in every thousand individuals. MRI is usually conducted to figure out this possibility. Hearing loss is the most common symptom associated with tinnitus. Acoustic neuromas grow slowly, but can spread enough to cause pressure on the brain to endanger one’s health.
A study performed on rats in the year 2003 discovered an astonishing fact that the microwave radiation emitted from cell phones can actually cause acoustic neuroma. The rats were subject to radiation sound for nearly two hours on daily basis, and these rats displayed drastic leakage in the blood vessel signifying that the damage was apparent.
One such horrifying incident came into the limelight, when a husband filed a lawsuit in 2003 claiming that his wife died because of the acceleration of the brain tumor caused due to cell phone usage. At that point, the case was a failure due to lack of scientific proof.
The year 2004 embarked with it a new study which came with substantial evidence that the use of cell phones actually causes acoustic neuroma, and the risk doubles after the 10 years. It was in the year 1999, when the FDA issued a statement claiming that there isn’t enough evidence to conclude the detrimental effects of cell phones with respect to this ailment. Now, this statement was completely overruled by the findings from the research conducted in the year 2004.
However, there is another side to this story as well. It takes nearly 20 years for a tumor to develop completely, and the studies claiming that cell phones are responsible for the cause of acoustic neuroma haven’t undergone so many years of experimentation.
There are also several clinical studies that claim that cell phones are not responsible for the cause of acoustic neuroma. However, all these studies were conducted on children below the age of 10.
In the UK, children below 16 are advised by the education secretary to avoid using cell phones as much as possible as they are at increased risk of getting infected by this aliment, due to their weak immune system.
With the long lasting debate still subject to being called as a reliable fact, how do we protect ourselves and our children from the harmful effects of this ailment? The best we can do is take precautionary measures like reducing the time spent on cell phone, using hands free kit and speaker whenever we can. Also restrict the use of cell phones amongst children to emergency use only. These measures are certainly worth, especially when they can save you and your children from a dreadful disease.
