If you are nearing retirement age, no doubt you’ve been researching different areas where you might like to move to, and no doubt you’ve also looked into Florida! Florida is a favorite among senior citizens for all of the obvious reasons: mild year-round temperatures, golf, thriving adult communities, and virtually no snow. Here are a few reasons why Destin, Florida just might be your very own retirement haven.
–Low population density
Unlike other areas of Florida, Destin is relatively uncrowded. Located on the Florida panhandle along the famed Emerald Coast, Destin gets its fair share of seasonal tourism but its permanent resident numbers are fairly low: only about 12,000.
–The fishing
For sport fishing enthusiasts who look forward to filling their retirement days with fishing expeditions, it’s hard to imagine a lovelier haven for this kind of activity than Destin. Destin has been nicknamed the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village” due to the large numbers of record-setting catches that have occurred there. Its status as a prime fishing location makes it the home of several large annual tournaments.
–The weather
Snowbirds love Florida weather, and it doesn’t get more pleasant anywhere else in the state than it does in Destin. During the fall and winter months, the town enjoys a mean temperature in the 60s and (with the exception of August) during the rest of the year the temperatures hover in the 70s and 80s. No more shoveling snow and no more shivering!
–The golf
The Senior PGA holds a tournament each year in Destin, and its golf courses are second to none in Florida. If golfing is your game, then Destin is your town.
Destin Florida truly is a retirement haven for many folks just like you: see what it has to offer.

Destin is an amazing place. While I am not retired yet, we go down here at least a week a year with family. I’d love to retire here when my time comes…and soon I hope. LOL
