What do you say to a child who comes home from school? Some say, Hey, how was your day, while others say, What happened today. I remember hearing one mom and listening to what she said, every day, after school. She did not say either of those things, but what she did say was, What was the best thing that happened to you today? And then she listened attentively to what the child said. After they talked about that a bit, she asked, Hey, what was the worse thing that happened today. And most times, the child would give the answers willingly without hesitation. Wow, I thought, what interesting questions and so different than the typical questions that we usually ask our children after a school day.
And wouldn’t we all be happier if someone asked us those questions, too, at the end of our work day? We, as humans, love having someone interested in our day but sometimes after a hard day’s work or even just after a hard day’s rest, we are so exhausted and frustrated with the hustle-bustle of the city that we can not even think of words to say must less answer any questions.
So, what do you do when you see someone after not seeing them all day? 1. Do not question until at least about one hour has passed. Save all the stressful talk until later on in the day or evening. Taking this one step will bring more peace and serenity into your life. And then when you do ask a question, make your first question be, what was the worst part of your day today? After hearing what the person has to say, you are ready to listen attentively a bit and then , the best part happens. Then later on, ask what the best part of their day has been like.
This is a lesson I learned early in life and that lesson is saving the best part for last. That is it. Save the best part for last. Sure you want to know what the worst and best part of their day has been but you always want to save the best part for last. This way you end your conversations on a positive note. That is the best way to communicate with anyone, if you remember to do that.
And, so I ask you , kindly answer this question, which is my best article? Yes, yes, yes, do not rub your eyes in disbelief at my question. I am honestly asking you, which of my articles did you enjoy the best?
I thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, for your honest opinions and answers. Please leave a note and also send an email. It will be wonderful to hear from you.
