African Tortoise is native from countries such as Senegal, Mali, Niger, Chad, Sudan and Ethiopia. They are usually found in Sahara desert. African or Sulcatas Tortoise has brownish or yellowish, broad and flattened carapace. As they mature, the growth rings found on their scutes are deeply marked. Old males grow reverted marginal scales in the front of their carapace.

Studies have been conducted that African or Sulcatas’ feces have shown that they do not digest their food well compare to other animals. They have found some animal components from their feces such as lizard skin shed and fur. African tortoise just like any other tortoise are what most owners referred as ‘eating machine’ because whatever that comes on their way, whether these are human stuff or even small animals, they consume it at once.
