Any woman who’s been through a pregnancy remembers it well: all of the joys along with all of those ever-increasing aches and pains that worsened as the baby grew! What many pregnant women don’t realize is that a chiropractor can do a lot to help them be more comfortable for the duration.

Low back pain is arguably the Number One complaint for expectant mothers, especially during the last trimester. The body’s increased production of the hormone elastin in combination with the weight and bulk of the baby and uterus put incredible amounts of stress on the woman’s lower back area.

By manipulating the spine and adjusting the position of the pelvis, the chiropractor is able to actually relieve a lot of that pressure and with it: the pain. But you don’t have to wait until the end of your pregnancy to have the chiropractor help. Having regular spine and pelvis checks done during gestation means that when the time to give birth comes, your body will be in alignment and the labor and delivery are more likely to be faster and less painful. When the pelvis is properly aligned for delivery, those nearby uterine muscles work more efficiently and have to work a lot less hard.

You take your prenatal pills, you visit your obstetrician when you should, you exercise regularly and you carefully watch what you eat: all of this is for the benefit of your brand new bundle of joy.
