There are some points you have to keep in mind before you open up your blog for sponsored blog posts from marketplaces like sponsoredreview.com, payperpost.com or reviewme.com
1) Keep the blog posts to a small percentage of your total posts. Dont exceed the sponsored blog posts to more than 10% of the total blog posts otherwise your RSS subscribers may find you out to be too greedy. Sponsored blog posts are already not liked by Google and other search engines as they help manipulate the natural ranking of the blogs. Sponsored posts are hated by Google as much as paid links are. Even if you keep the paid posts to 10%, thats again too much but your readers can tolerate that much. Dont exceed that.
2) Choosing your blog posts:
Though the paid post companies match your blog with the right sponsor, there may be times when you may be contacted by an advertise directly to sponsor a post for his product or website. You should only publish those sponsored posts which are related to your blog category. For example if you are running a health related blog, you should never have a sponsored blog post related to some software product or service. This may anger your readership and cut down your subscriber number. So choose your blog posts carefully.
3) You can exceed sponsored blog posts limit if the Posts are totally a part of your mainstream topics: If you get an advertiser who wants to sponsor a post related to a product which is totally related and is a part of your mainstream blog topic, think yourself to be lucky. Blog posts can be always slightly different than your general blog topics from which the users come to know that its a sponsored post. But if its not, then its good. For example if you are running a weight loss related blog and you get a query from an advertiser who is launching a product for weight loss which you think is too good, then you may be able to persuade a good part of your visitors and subscribers to buy or atleast think deeply about that product. You will be able to better review that product since it is totally a part of your blog topics. You can also get better money for that post. And there will be more conversion for the sponsor which will help you get more orders from the sponsor in future!
4) Use the product or website personally before writing a blog post for it:
You must use the product yourself or surf the website personally to know everything about it without writing a sponsored post regarding it. This way you will be able to write better about the product or website and get better conversion for your sponsor which will help you get more orders in future. You know your subscribers and you know how to persuade them to take some action. So if you examine the details of the product or website yourself, you will be in a better position to maximise the benefits to the sponsor.
5) Stress more on the sponsored product’s qualities and less on its drawbacks:
There will ofcourse be very few bloggers who will write a lot of negative points about the sponsored product as it defeats the whole purpose of the paid posts. So you should be careful about how to write about the product’s advantages over its rival products. You should always present the product’s few drawbacks in a way which is more acceptable to the readers. There is a saying that you should show your weaknesses as your strengths like some smart people do in a HR interview when asked “what are your weaknesses?” Every product has some drawbacks be it a tech gadget or a web product but you should stress a lot on the product’s advantages and innovative features rather than its drawbacks.
Make the sponsored post useful to the readers and Make it more profitable for the sponsor. It will bring your more high value sponsored / paid blog posts in future and result in more income from your blog. Good Luck!
