As you may well know, high school is not the be-all and end-all of everything. After experiencing the high induced by being 18 and graduating from high school, it is now time to sit down and think about what you are going to do afterwards. It is the time in your life where you have to make some big decisions.

College is very expensive now and not every student will decide that it is worth it. When you factor in the cost along with a students desire for higher education, many may feel that going straight into the work force is the better option. College isn’t for everyone but it is usually the right choice if you can afford it.

The reasons a college degree is preferable for many include the fact that it may open up a lot more opportunities and many employers now require a degree. Another reason is that over a lifetime, it has been shown that people with a college degree make more than those without. The long terms benefits of college are obvious but you will be trading immediate income for possible higher income later on.

Aside from financial compensation, studying in a reputable college or university will shape up not just your academic skills, but also your interpersonal skills. It helps you establish your confidence and value system that you are going to need later on when you barge into the corporate world. College is the right choice for most young adults for these reasons and more.

Another reason why college might not be a clear-cut choice for some is its extremely high price. Many students need to go heavily in debt just to graduate with a degree and when you compare that to the alternative of making money and perhaps saving right out of high school, the choice becomes more complicated.
