There are some states that do require a separate license exams for hairstylists, nail technicians or skin care specialists, so if you are deciding to learn all three you may be required to obtain three different licenses, depending on the state in which you live. Many Cosmetologists can participate in apprenticeships once they graduate from the school of their choice, and an apprenticeship can last between one to three years.
